Tips for Cluster Headache Prevention

15.08.2009 19:22
If you suffer from cluster headaches, it is important for you to know that this is a condition you actually want to use preventive measures for. Rather than waiting for the cluster headache to attack and then dealing with it, you want to use the right cluster headache prevention methods so that you can stop a cluster headache before it even starts.

Fortunately there are some very effective cluster headache prevention drugs on the market today, also known as beta-blockers. These are what your doctor will commonly prescribe if you suffer from cluster headaches on a regular basis. Just make sure that you listen to your doctor and take the recommended dosage, otherwise the medication will not work as it is supposed to.

Also give the cluster headache prevention drugs some time to start working. Too many people start using these cluster headache prevention drugs, do not get the results that they are looking for right away, and end up getting off of them. This is the worst thing that you can do, and you should give medications at least four weeks to see their full results.

Other Tips

Besides using these preventive drugs, there are also a few other things that you want to be aware of if you are dealing with this horrible sinus headache condition. For one, you should learn what the triggers of your cluster headaches are, so that you can try to avoid them as best as possible in the future.

For instance, pight lights may cause you to have cluster headaches, and if you find that this is true, you will just want to avoid being around pight lights such as the television and supermarkets as best you can.

There are also a number of other steps that you can take to help avoid the onset of a cluster headache. Avoiding afternoon naps is a good tip that you probably wouldn’t have thought of, as once a cluster period has started, taking an afternoon nap pings on a headache for many people. Wine is also often a trigger, and in fact alcohol of any sort will often ping on cluster headaches.

This doesn’t mean that you can never drink alcohol again, just be careful with what you are drinking and how much of it.

As you can see, if you deal with cluster headaches, using cluster headache prevention drugs will surely be your best bet. Just make sure that you stay in close contact with your doctor, let them know how you are doing on the drugs and do not stop taking them apuptly.
